Six-months and Counting
Juliette does not take naps. Even when she's tired and cranky. She cries and cries and nothing I do makes her happy. Every once in awhile she will see the logic of falling back, closing her eyes, and napping. During a rare nap I slowly drop her into her crib, close the curtains, and creep out of the darkened room to do something vital (i.e., eating, use the toilet, prepare a lecture, read an article, wash dishes, etc.). Most of the day I hold Juliette and try, try, try and try again to work. It is already 5:33 PM and Juliette has been held most of the day. Today, we both got clean: one warm soapy bath and one hot shower. She has had several meals, mostly formula and a few licks of spinach and potato baby food. I had one small over-cooked frozen small frozen vegetarian lasagna. Hours before the lasagna, I had a small cup of hot tea with the last of the evaporated milk, I finished the fresh milk this morning with an even smaller cup of coffee. I dream of Starbucks. As soon as Chris comes through the door, I am out of the door, on my way to Starbucks with lecture materials in hand. I tired to clean/organize the main room today. I want so much to welcome Fall, 2007 with a cleaner space than we passed Summer, 2007. I will try again on Thursday. I teach tomorrow, with an early morning medical appointment, which means packing up and leaving for my Mother's early, like 11:30AM. Long night ahead , writing a lecture and re-writing my syllabus. I can't wait until Thursday, the first of several cherished days off.
